I can't knit socks. Really, I can't. I tried and nearly broke my needles in frustration. No, really. I'm not making jokie here.
Simple. Socks.
Four needles, two hands is just too much for me, I guess. I so badly wanted to do it, too. But the needles kept flopping and twisting and trying to scurry from my hands.
Dangit!!
Hold the phone. I think I could make HJS these wristlets.
I'm looking for a (simple) pattern for a knit beanie. You know, like the ones that are popular right now. Anyone have one?
Yet another scarf. This one I made for my daughter.
This is the one I am working on right now:

I love making these. One of my favorite parts is choosing the colors and seeing how it turns out.
Oooh this could come in handy: Knitting Cocktails.
Tons and tons of free scarf knitting patters. My Beautiful Boa is linked on there (that's how I found the site - referrals). I'm all down with fast and easy, or else I am on to the next task. I'm still working on a multi-colored scarf I started over a year ago, but have gotten many others done in the meantime. Go figure.
This site also has oodles of other links to free patterns. Great site.
Oooh ooh!!! Look at this one. A piggy pot holder. Boy, I wish I could knit that.
Here's a couple more finished scarves. The top lime-multi one is for a little girl, and the bottom is for my friend.
It is hard to see the shimmer in the pictures, unfortunately. But you get the idea.
If you are interested in the pattern, you can find it here. Super easy. I couldn't make it if it weren't. Forgive me, though, I'm tired and hope the instructions make sense.
Here is a lime green scarf. I started it last night and finished it up today. It is to go to my Goddaughter. Or her sister. Not sure which one. Anyway, I made it with Funfur (I think that's the name), on size 13 needles with 1 ball Funfur and one regular lime yarn. 10 sts across.
I have one more to make and need to finish up the pink black scarf. I had to get another skein of yarn for that one, though, 'cause my husband thought it was too short. Ah well.
I am making this scarf for a girlfriend of mine (I sure hope she doesn't read this before Christmas). I've got 3 I want to make, and if I have time I would like to slip in one for my daughter as well. She saw me knitting this one and said, "Those are punk colors!! I want it!!!"
Here it is a little under half done, I think. I started it yesterday and hope to finish it today.
I don't know how in the world I got my "broken" camera to work, but it did. I can't think of the name of the yarns off the bat but it is the two held together in straight garter.
Gotta link sent in by a reader: Smileys Yarns. Dang they got some good prices!!
Thanks, Lisa. ![]()
My kids happen to love headbands. I knit one a while back, and since they are into them right now, they've been asking for more. I've made 2 more so far, but can't find the other one right now. Here's the chunky green one, made from the same yarn as the chunky hat.
I didn't write a pattern down, but basically you cast on 70sts, k2, p2 across and continue that patter (ribbing) until you reach the desired width of the band. I think with this one I did about 13, 14 rows. Cast off, sew up and there you have it.
As you can see, mine is a little tight (I always cast off tight), but the fit is fine.
This is what I'm working on right now. My girlfriend bought me this yarn in exchange for (re)teaching her to knit. I the scarf is in straight k, 19 across. It's lovely to be working with pink, my favorite color. Ahhh yes.
Except scarfs take forfreakingever.
I made some 2-needle mittens while watching a movie the other day. I made one during the movie, actually, and the other the next morning. Apparently I didn't pay much attention to anything, because one is knitted with straight knitting, the other is knit on one side purled on the other (I believe).
So, here's one of the two mittens. They are for the kids, and since the one who has made a claim on them is only 4, he doesn't know the difference between the two.
Must pay more attention next time.
Knitted Snowman Card. Cute, but maybe too tedious for me.
Ooh, I'd like to make this cat toy from the Spring issue of knitty.
I want to try felting. I have no idearsky where to start. Anybody have any good links?
Hand made knitting needles. Mmmm. I might have to give these a try. In one of the knitting books I have, it tells how to make needles out of dowels.
Link found on Lucy's site.
Man, I'd love to be able to knit me some of these piggy slippers. In an adult size 9, of coarse... the pattern is just for kids. No way would I tackle that puppy on my own.
This is what I'm working on right now (as well as 2 discloths that are not holding my interest at the moment). It's a striped scarf, done with making a pattern up along the way, because apparently I'm having pattern issues lately. I don't feel like sticking with one.
I did make a point of writing down the pattern, though, because I don't want to forget it.
The only problem I'm having with the scarf is weaving in the ends of the yarn when I switch colors. I've never learned how to do that. I attempted it twice, but now I live in fear of having it unravel on me. That would be sad. I have to find some good weaving instructions.
This is a wee hat ( both pictures are of the same hat, mind you ) I made for my neice/nephew who's due to arrive sometime in March, I believe. Or is it April? Hmmm. Well, at any rate, I was asked to make it yellow, and I did. I made it using an incresed version of the preemie hat pattern I've used before. I used the same size needle, but co 48 sts instead of 36, and I also made it 4.5 inches from the ribbing instead of 4.
I can not, for the life of me, figure out what kind of yarn I used. It's a no-dye lot kind and I picked it up at freaking Wal-mart because it was soft. And now I don't know what kind I used. Eh. I guess I'll have to go back there and figure it out.
I had a request for the pattern I used to make the hat that sits up on the corner of this site. If anyone else would like it, here's the link: Stretchy Knit Preemie hat.
I knit this for my daughter for Christmas. I had to do it on the sly - I took the picture late at night before I wrapped it. (Or was it the middle of the day...don't remember) It was done in 2 sittings with 2 strands of yarn on #11 (?) needles. I don't even remember the pattern, honestly. But, she loved it. I've got a lot of yarn left over, too. Maybe I'll knit her a scarf, or boa or little pursey.
I made this mouse and gave it away to a friend for her kittys. I was a little hesitant to make it, because I like to have a visual of something before I start off on creating it. But, it was pretty easy to make and my family guessed it was a mouse before I told them.
I stuffed it with a little baggie of catnip and a bell. Pattern here.
Hugs For Homeless Animals Snuggles Project. Knit or crochet a "snuggle" for an animal's cage. Hey - I think I may do this.
Wow, here's a crapload of free sock patterns. Too bad I can't knit socks. Wah.
I'm still on my knitted discloth kick. I knitted that purple one up there for me. It's a pattern that gives you tiny cables without a cable needle. I've knitted one before this and gave it away as a gift, but wanted one for myself. And...of coarse, since my dumb ass was watching television while knitting, I screwed up somewhere along the way and ended up with a flip-flop pattern. But, it's all good. I like variety and am quite used to my mistakes while knitting and television watching.
The other cloth, I used my favorite pattern, but increased using 45 sts across and (I believe) size 8 needles. Nice sized cloth, I tell ya. And the color is way more vibrant than what came out of the scanner. Here's a close-up of the cloth.
Yet...another dishcloth. This one I made from this pattern. It was an easy enough pattern to do and really does have 2 different textures to the cloth. I like that.
I am in the discloth obsess mode again. This is the first in what will probably be another string of dishcloths. I got the pattern from here and used Sugar and Cream yarn to make it. It took me 2 days of on and off knitting. I used size 6 needles. The picture isn't so swell, because my scanner bunched it up a bit. But, you get the idea. You also can't see the triangles very well, but look hard - they are there. I like the color of the yarn, too.
Here's the scarf I'm working on. A friend of mine requested that I make her one about a year ago. I decided to knit this while watching television and it became what I call my "Survivor Scarf" because basically, I knit it while watching Survivor. I started with a k2,p2 pattern, but I get so caught up in the show that I've completely messed the entire pattern up and now it looks like a dog knit it, or something.
There is a 5 inch long strip where it looks like I k2,p1 for a while and then there's big chunks of k thrown in places, too. I'm not so sure if I will be giving away this haphazard work of (art) slop to my friend anymore. I may just keep it as Survivor Scarf memorabilia.
MEETUP. Meet other knitters in your area. Cool idea.
Thanks to the Calorie Counter, I now know that I burn roughly 133 calories per hour while knitting. I think that will be my new sport. Knitting for fitness. Yah.
Link swiped from Heather.
This is a washcloth that I made while vacationing up at my parent's cabin. I didn't use a pattern, but instead just went about doing it. I took this picture right after making it, and since the cloth is at the cabin, I don't have any better pictures of it. Here's another picture of it. You can't see the pattern as well as I would have hoped, but it was a quick, easy knit. Want the pattern? Well, here you go.
I finally finished my first hat of the season. I've had this lime colored yarn waiting around forever, too. I didn't use a pattern, but just kind of whipped it up. I'm planning on making another one (they are for the twins), but just backwards from this one. I'll probably post the pattern, once I can figure out what I did.
I got messed up a few times because I was watching Survivor on television and forgot what my hands are doing. But, you can't tell in the finished product.
(NOTE: The first picture is of the brim down, the second is of the brim up.)
Now this is a nice page full of crafty resources. Try and get through those in one day. No chance.
Here's the progress of the multi/lime colored hat I'm making. I'm not using a pattern, really, just going with the flow, using size 10 needles, 80 sts casted on and now I'm in straight knitting after doing the ribbing. I'm excited to see how this looks when it's all done.
Being that it's getting chilly out (or it's supposed to be), I'm starting my first hat. It's just a basic k2, p2 right now. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the body of the hat. Probaly just a straight knit, I guess. I don't really care. I'm just happy to have a little project.
I just love watching people knit. I can't figure out what Aimee's doing, here. What kind of stitch. Baffles me...
Oooh, ooh, ooh. Heather's selling her knitted goodies. How did we both start knitting at the same time, yet I don't think I could make one of those things???
Baffles me.
I finished my pig. My knitted piggie. Well, almost. I don't know how to make the tail, so I didn't bother with it yet. But, it's, for the most part, finished. It looks a little like it got hit by a car because it's snout is on lopsided. But I don't care. I love my little pig. My daughter named it "Brownie" and I like that name, so that's what I've been calling his cute little self. Here's a side view. I don't know what I'll make next. My kids are already making requests (demands).
I finally finished the dishcloth I've been knitting for a friend. She had picked out some yarn that she liked and I promised to knit her a few cloths. For this one, I used the tiny cables pattern to make it. You can't see the little cables as well in the picture, but they are there. I love cables and this was my first stab at them (no cable needle involved). I think my knitting is a wee bit loose, though and kind of slopped up (many distractions during this one). But, oh well. I'm happy to have tried a new patter.
I'm still working on that knitted pig. I made a lot of progress today, regardless that my kids are very, very interested in the fact that I'm making a pig. They gather around me and watch, awe-stricken. They've already got their requests in for a monkey and a snake. But, I tell them, "Let's just see if mommie can finish the pig first, okay?" Here's some progress pictures. Body and body with one leg.
I'm not sure if my pig will be able to stand, but who knows. Maybe it will turn out better than I think. The instructions are pretty easy, but sometimes slightly vague (the snout was vague, for instance). And as far as sewing stuff together, I don't know the names of the stiches and I tend to just sew it up as I see fit. But, I'm happy to say that I did NOT increase my yarn stash with this pig, but rather decreased it. I vowed not to go out and buy yarn specifically to make it, but to use up some of my ever increasing stash.
I also used up some old pillow stuffing for inside the pig. Feels good to stick to my guns and be frugal for once.
Here's a start to the square I'm knitting for Project Linus. Actually, it's almost done. I've got about 1 more row to do and I'm going to mail it off. I decided to go with a waffle pattern. It's one of my favorites. When I saw Heather's square, the temptation was too strong. I needed to waffle. I was so unhappy with my first attempt, and the yarn I was doing, I dropped that square and started over. I also added a 2 stitch border around the outside, just for something different.
I made another, this one will be going away in a trade. I'm getting some homeade stationary for it!! That's cool, 'cause momma can't make any homeade stationary.
Now I'm going to get re-started on that square for Project Linus (via Judy). I started one, hated the yarn, bought some yarn, and am starting again.
I finished the boa and had a lot of fun making it. I loved the feel of the yarn in my hands. Silky, sexy and pretty. I think the girl I'm making it for will love it. Pattern here.
This is one of my current knitting adventures. It's a boa for one of my daughter's friends. She's invited to a party this weekend and this friend of hers adores Sophia's boas. They put them on playing Make Believe Diva and prance around the house like queens. I'm knitting it on #11 needles and hope to hell I have enough frigging yarn to finish the scarf. Since I innitially was going to make a purse, I didn't buy too much. The yarn is Firenze color 442. I luv, luv, love it.
Man, I was bidding on this, starting at 6 bucks. Kept going up in incriments of .50 cents. Someone has already set a higher bid, so everytime I bid, it tells me "We're sorry...
You have been outbid by another bidder..." I went up to 15, basically just to see how high someone else has already gone. The entire package is worth more than that, though. Darn. I want those needles!!
Does anyone have a favorite store where they buy yarn online? I haven't ordered online yet, but hesitate to because I'm just so ignorant to it.
Any suggestions?
I finally finished a little purse thing that I've been working on forever. I don't know why I've negelected it for so long, but it was so easy to finish up. I posted the pattern this purse right here. It's so easy and makes a cute gift :)
Okay, so I'm looking at the Sugar'n Cream yarns. There's a couple that I really like, but just CAN NOT find anywhere. I've checked and checked, too. These are the ones I'm in lust after:
- Dessert Sun
- Painted Dessert
- Flair
- Newport
- Winterberry
- Magenta Ripple (love this one!!)
- Tangerine Dream
All the Ombre shades, basically, huh? I'd love to find some of those. It would be fun to mix them with some of the solid shades. Pretty soon I'm going to have more dishcloths than I can fit in my drawer.
I finished my Chunky Hat while driving up north on vacation. I also posted the (super duper easy pattern, for those who need super duper easy patterns). You can see it right here.
Also, I put up a little box where you can be notified when I make entries, if you'd like.
I made yet another dishrag, this time following a pattern from the Discloth Botique, the Square in Square Dishcloth.
It was easy enough for me, but tedious because I had to keep referring to the pattern. I used a multicolored yarn, but think the pattern would show up better in a plain yarn like the site used.
I'd really like to try dying some yarn with Kool-Aid. It seems like an interesting project to try. I've printed out a couple "recipes" for Kool-Aid dying, but wonder where most people purchase their yarn from.
I went to Hobby Lobby and looked at theirs, but only found a 20% wool / 80% acrylic yarn. I can't use that, can I? Doesn't it need to be all wool???
I'm starting on a pair of 2 needle socks. I got the pattern from here, but seeing as I can't really stick to a pattern for some reason, I modified it a bit without ever making a sock. We'll see how that turns out.
I don't really know if it will be comfy, seeing as there really is no heel...but I figure I'll try anyway.
Well, I made a couple of these Waffle Face Cloths for Mother's Day to give to my Mother and Mother-in-law. They were super easy and I finished them both in one sitting. I'll post the pattern later. It's a great pattern to get familiar with purling, if you're a newbie to it.

Well, I finished my blue hat. There's Frannie in it. He was eating cereal, but was more than happy to pose for me. It's so big, it even fits me.
My husband was right. It was way to damn big. It even flopped over on my head. The height was right, but the width was not. I began with a (rotten evil) pattern that told me to cast on 126 stitches. I did. But then, I made the mistake of watching television while I knitted an PURLED and made some nice increases by making yo instead of purling...Oi. The tragedy ensues. Oh well. But since I hat promised the hat to my 3 year old son, I had to flap the thing over and sew it up so it was smaller. The flap makes it kind of heavy on one side, but I don't care. If I had a rotweiller with a huge head, then he could wear it in the original size. But I don't.
I put a new picture up there on the left. I've been working on this hat for a while now. I do a few rows whenever I can. One of the twins (3yo) loves to wear hats. I hope it turns out. My husband thinks it looks too big. But, what does he know?
Hey, this is pretty neat. You can see knitting in action at Wendy's Knitting Blog. I don't know anyone who knits IRL, and I'm always wondering and interested in other people's techniques.
